Kirk Cousins Will Start Over Robert Griffin On Sunday

According to three major NFL reporters, the Washington Redskins may bench Robert Griffin III in favor of backup Kirk Cousins.

Wednesday morning, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer tweeted, "Thinking inside Redskins building today is that Shanahan is going w Cousins unless RG3 is able to convince him otherwise."

Later in the morning, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted, "Per to 2 people who have seen the gameplan, appear to be moving forward with Kirk Cousins at QB. RGIII hasn't been told either way."

ESPN's John Keim confirmed, "Team source confirms NFL AM report that Kirk Cousins will start for the against Atlanta Sunday."

Tensions have been high for the Washington Redskins during their current 3-10 season.

An ESPN report on Sunday claimed that head coach Mike Shanahan is unhappy with the relationship between Robert Griffin III and owner Dan Snyder.  A "source" told ESPN that Shanahan, "had grown tired of the way Snyder empowered Griffin and openly esteemed him above all other players. Shanahan didn't blame Griffin but did blame Snyder for creating an atmosphere that Shanahan did not believe was conducive to winning. Shanahan privately told people close to him that he felt Snyder's behavior with regard to Griffin was a 'complete farce.'"

Many believe that Shanahan is done as the head coach of the Washington Redskins.  Several expected that the coach would be fired on Monday, but that did not happen.

It's ugly.

DC101's Roche and Joe Theismann discussed what the Redskins should do.

UPDATE:

Robert Griffin III will be inactive on Sunday.  Rex Grossman will backup Cousins, according to the NFL Network's Jeff Darlington.
