John Lennon's Walk Of Fame star vandalized

The late John Lennon's star is now restored after being vandalized.

The defacing was discovered Saturday when "A Magical History Tour" made a stop at the star.  Tour leader Gillian Lomax tells "The Hollywood Reporter" it looked like the work of several people, who used a variety of colored pens.  She adds that she "tried to rub it out" without success.

But she got the message to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, who had a crew on the scene Monday morning scrubbing the star clean.  All the graffiti was gone before noon.

Hollywood Walk of Fame rep Ana Martinez says the Walk is very protective of the stars, which are registered state landmarks.  She adds that Capitol Records is checking to see if they have any video of the vandalism, which is a crime.  Lennon's star is outside the label's building.

The vandalism occurred just four days before Lennon's birth anniversary, which is coming up on Wednesday.  A gathering at the star is planned for October 9th to commemorate what would have been the former Beatle's 73rd birthday on Wednesday.
