Morrissey isn't a big fan of Jimmy Kimmel, or at least not anymore. On Tuesday night's episode of ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," the host explained that Morrissey had cancelled his planned performance at the last minute because he didn't want to appear alongside the cast of "Duck Dynasty." Kimmel then aired a faux commercial from the duck-hunting reality TV stars, advertising their new vegan-friendly product.
In his explanation, Kimmel also joked that the former Smiths singer "keeps finding new ways to depress us," and said he chose not to cut the "Duck Dynasty" team because they have guns.
Morrissey released a statement Wednesday via True-To-You.net, and didn't appear to find any of the jokes funny. He said he was disappointed with Kimmel for ridiculing depression, healthy eating habits, and "the notion that animals should be entitled to the possession of their own lives."
The singer also criticized Kimmel for jokingly promoting gun ownership, sarcastically adding that the comments were no doubt "hugely amusing for the parents at Sandy Hook."
Although Kimmel told his audience that he really does respect Morrissey's stance on the issue, he said the host "has finally revealed his show to have an overwhelming loss of meaning."
He added that people should tune in if they want to "relive the intellectual fog of the 1950s."
