A group of Republican U.S. senators is calling on President Obama to withdraw his Secretary of Defense nomination. The senators sent a letter to Obama today saying they respect Republican nominee Chuck Hagel's military service, but that he lacks bipartisan support.
U.S. Senator John Cornyn of Texas says Hagel's performance at his confirmation hearing led to serious doubts about his competence to serve in the role. The senators cited what they called his "erratic record" and statements about national security and Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons.
