The Maryland State Senate passed a bill that woiuld decriminalize marijuana on Friday.

According to the Annapolis Patch, the bill would decriminalize use and possession of small amounts of marijuana in the state.  The bill passed by a vote of 36 to 8.

If the House passes the bill and it is signed into law, marijuana possession would be reclassified.  It is currently a criminal offense that can result in jail time.  If the bill becomes a law, marijuana possession would be a civil offense carrying a $100 fine.
