David Letterman Will Retire in 2015

David Letterman will retire in 2015, according to CNN's Brian Stelter.

The television host has been at CBS' Late Show since 1993.  Before that run, he hosted NBC's Late Night.

Letterman apparently discussed his plan during the taping of Thursday night's show, according to Variety.

The announcement comes about a month after the retirement of Jay Leno.  Letterman and Leno battled head to head for 20 years.  Jay infamously nabbed NBC's Tonight Show job after the retirement of Johnny Carson.  Many believed that Letterman would land that job.  The saga has been chronicled in a book and movie called The Late Shift.

According to the New York Times, Craig Ferguson has the right to inherit Letterman's show.
