Report: $9 Billion In Iraq Rebuilding Money Lost

Poor planning and a lack of oversight are being blamed for more than nine-billion dollars in losses in the U.S. effort to rebuild Iraq.  A new report by a government watchdog group cites massive fraud and waste in the nearly decade-long program.

The U.S. inspector general for Iraq reconstruction says mistakes by both the Bush and Obama administrations led to the loss of about 15 percent of the total 60-billion dollars in taxpayer money allocated for reconstruction.

The findings were released today in a report which also notes that conditions in Iraq were far worse than planners expected.  This month marks the tenth anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion that toppled Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein
